At COOL4SEA we are committed to operating in congruence with UNGC principles on responsible business conduct and sustainable development. You can read more on how we try to met these global goals.
“Ensure access to affordable, reliable sustainable and modern energy”
COOL4SEA contribute to the global rate of improvement, by improving the efficiency of cooling on ships. Conventional methods for cooling on ships have a coefficient of performance (COP) of 2 whereas COOL4SEA has a COP ranging from 30 to 50.
“Build resilient infrastructure, promote sustainable industrialization and foster innovation”
COOL4SEAs design can be used for both retrofit and newly designed ships. In both instances, the efficiency in resource-use is increased, because the need for fuel to generate electricity is eliminated. Instead, waste heat from the ship’s engine is used to generate cooling by using environmentally sound technology.
“Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns”
Normally, conventional cooling systems use toxic refrigerants which are harmful to the environment, and requires fuel to generate electricity whereby CO2, NOx and SOx are emitted. C4S’ design only uses waste heat from the ship’s engine and minimal amount of electricity. The absorbent in the cooling system is a lithium bromide compound, which is not dangerous to the environment nor human health in case of leaks.
“Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impact”
COOL4SEAs cooling system reduces CO2 emissions with up to 94% and thereby the likelihood of future climate-related hazards and natural disasters in all countries.
“Conserve and Sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources”
COOL4SEAs cooling design reduces CO2, NOx and SOx pollution by utilizing waste heat that is already being generated by the ship, rather than burning additional fuel to generate electricity for cooling which pollutes the environment.
